Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thero stated that he made this request to the Elections Commission on behalf of the Ramanna Maha Nikaya in view of the disrepute being caused to the Buddha Sasana as several monks are fighting for the position.
According to the percentage of votes obtained by Ape Jana Bala Pakshaya which contested the general election under the symbol of a flag, the party has won a National List seat.
However, no one has been appointed to the post so far and it is reported that this is due to the crisis situation within the party
