The new road is planned to run through the NonPareil estate to Nagrak. From there onwards, the travellers will have to go on foot.
It is said that this new route is planned through an area facing a high risk of landslides, putting travellers in danger.
In a media release, president of the society, Atheek Nazir says that another route to Horton Plains is unnecessary as two routes already exist.
He also points out the potential harm on wildlife in the area if a road is built.
