Manning Market Traders say no to relocating

The Manning Market Traders’ Association has expressed its opposition against the government’s decision to temporarily relocate the Colombo Manning Market to a state owned building in Peliyagoda.

Speaking to the Vice President of the Manning Market Traders’ Association, Nimal Attanayake said the association vehemently condemns the government’s decision, which was reached without consulting the association or traders.

He said traders had continuously cooperated with health authorities and had not raised any objections thus far.

Attanayake accordingly urged the government to take measures to complete construction of the new Manning Market which is currently under construction in Peliyagoda, instead of moving the market to a temporary location; adding over 1,200 traders are of the same stance.

Nimal Attanayake stressed therefore that the Manning Market Traders’ Association refuses to reopen the market until the government agrees to their demands.
